The awareness of the mind is the only form of consciousness. Who or what we are has very little to do with our experiences. We experience our flesh, we experience our thoughts. But are we only flesh and thoughts? Imagine the face of a toddler running into it's mother's arms. You see the joy on their faces. You may even experience the bliss. But who's bliss is it? The very imaginary child, the mother, or yours? We can never prove by any measure that what we experience is real. Everything we experience is the result of being aware of it. Your own consciousness is an ocean of awareness.
Focus on sensations in your body. Just one. Make yourself fully aware of it. Can be pleasant or painful. Focus on it intensely. Now breath in for four seconds. Hold for two, and out for six.
As you repeat this exercise, imagine the island of attention that has your focus begins to melt away. You now can drift back into the vastness of non sensation that is the rest of your awareness. When you are hit with a sensation, practice shifting your awareness into an area of non sensation. Focus on your breathing. Begin to master your body by untethering your mind from islands of sensation. I have been practicing my drifting state for 2yrs. One thing I find the most difficult is quieting my mind. But once I do, I'm able to control my pain, cravings, and grief stricken memory. It takes time to master. I still stumble. That is my experience, my sensation, my drift. Open yourself up to the ocean of awareness and find your wave. Peace, happiness, laughter, and love.
